Harplands Hospital Inpatient Reconfiguration

Value: £21m
Completion: 2024

Project Description:

Following the completion of a number of feasibility studies and options appraisal, T.A.D. Architects have been appointed as Architect and Lead Consultant on the Inpatient Reconfiguration Project at Harplands Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent, for North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust.

The project has two principal streams of work. Workstream 1 focuses on the removal of multi-bed dormitories from the acute inpatient wards through the provision of new ensuite bedrooms throughout each of the 4 Wards. The works focus on internal alterations and refurbishment. To enable this to happen the Trust are converting an administrative area of the building to form a “Decant Ward” to enable each ward to be vacated in turn to allow the works to happen, whilst maintaining patient privacy, dignity and comfort.

Workstream 2 looks to create a new Learning Disabilities Service within the main Harplands Hospital, providing care for patients with complex mental health issues. The scheme includes a number of new extensions to the building and extension re-modelling and refurbishment of all parts of a Ward to form this new Service provision.

Alongside this new LD Service will be a new inpatient facility for patients with acquired or degenerative brain injuries. The scheme includes a number of new extensions to the building and extension re-modelling and refurbishment of all parts of a Ward to form this new Service provision. In addition new external areas will be created to support the care provision.

T.A.D. are also providing a number of other disciplines through our supply chain, including Structural and Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying Services and various Services and supporting Consultancy Services.
