House extension and alterations, Tideswell

A Single storey extension to an existing 3 bedroom Housing Association owned dwelling in the Peak District National Park. The extension was designed to complement the existing building in its semi-rural setting.  Internal modifications included replacement of the existing kitchen and alterations to the existing sleeping accommodation.  A new bedroom with en-suite bathroom was formed within the new extension, all accessible from ground floor.  Great care was taken when sourcing and specifying materials to match those used in the existing house, and this was of particular importance given the location of the building.

External works due to the sloping nature of the site included the construction of a new stone clad reinforced concrete retaining wall around the extension, with a central flight of steps leading up to the garden area.  Further improvements and modifications were made to the layout of the existing garden walls and paths.  The dwelling remained in full occupation throughout the duration of the works, and to enable this, it involved careful planning of the site layout and phasing of the work on site, initially with the client and tenant and later with the contractor.
