Oxenhope Station Cafe

Oxenhope Station Cafe for the Keighley & Worth Valley Light Railway

The KWVR is a standard gauge branch line which joins the national railway network at Keighley in the north east of England and runs 5-miles up the Worth Valley to Oxenhope. Other stations on the Line are at Ingrow, Damems, Oakworth (location of the film 'The Railway Children') and Haworth (the former home of the Brontė family).

The new building will provide a new cafe/restaurant facility to serve the visitors of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

The Cafe/restaurant area will have capacity for between 70-80 seats, this will accommodate general visitors to the railway and have the ability to provide refreshments/meals for the coach parties that already visit the railway, but have to go elsewhere for meals.

It is anticipated that there will be a mix of 'counter' sales for cups of tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes, with seated dining for plated meals (serving 'quality' wholesome British food). In addition alcoholic drinks will be served, as they are already on the railway itself. It is anticipated that the cafe will be owned and run by the KWVR, with a Catering Manager/Chef in place to manage the facility and a mix of full time employees and volunteers.

The new facility will also provide additional catering space for the railway to support their existing operations in terms of special events and trains on the railway.

The brief for the seating areas was to ensure a degree of flexibility in use, such that the venue could be used by the community or other groups, outside of the railway's operating times.
